[Review] 5000202: Elrond

Post by zenelim on Mon Dec 03, 2012 10:46 pm

My first attempt at a review, how I am going to do this is let the pictures do most of the talking. I mean, a picture is worth a thousand words, right? x)

Managed to get one off eBay 2 weeks ago. Price was a little steep but guess this is the trade-off to get it fast, especially with these exclusive minifigures. LEGO Elrond comes as a promotional polybag with the pre-order edition of the LOTR Video Game, a pretty good marketing gimmick for the games. Let's get to the minifigure! (:

6 pieces. Quick fix. Particularly like the pearl gold torso that Elrond comes in. His glaive is a new mould I believe, and we should probably see them in future LEGO sets.

Much controversy surrounds as to what cape should Elrond comes with - the full length or the hobbit-sized. From what I gathered, the polybag pictured him as having a full-length while the video game has him in hobbit-sized cape. Frankly speaking, I think it does not matter as long as he gets one. Let's see him all fixed up.

He looks cute yea?

However, the slight problem I feel is that his headpiece seems to pressing on the cape a little too much. With that, I decided to move the cape to his left, much like Boba Fett in the new desert skiff (9496).

Looks good too!

Was wondering how Elrond compares to Legolas (9473) other than the colour of their headpiece.

We see Elrond having more silvery and gold printing on his torso and legs (perks of a promotional minifigure). He looks troubled too, probably worried about his fight with Sauron coming up x)

If you guys are wondering how movie accurate the Elrond minifigure is, here is him in the Battle of Dagorlad. For you to judge!

Overall: 8/10
Building experience: 6/10 (1 point for each piece xD)
Parts: 8/10
Playability: 9/10
Value for money: 7/10

A very nice minifigure for those who are fans of the LOTR. For non-fans, perhaps paying for a promotional item is not worth it since it was given for free. If you have the spare cash, get it!

In the game, it appears the cape is short and not the long version shown in the package. So, I guess the designers wanted a short cape and not a long one.

Waiting to collect my quartet from the recent MO. Smile

Doubt I will add anymore unless the price drops. At over 30SGD per minifig currently, it's approaching my limit.

As for capes, I prefer to go Edna Mode. So it doesn't matter.

Sooner or later, I will have a WTS post for all the capes I've collected so far. Let's just say it's over a hundred MIC capes now...

Best of all, Elrond's back torso printing is great for generic elven cannon fodder. Some Eurobrick(?) guy did it by reversing the torso. Looks great.

Sorry. Can't find the pics where he posted both Elrond and a reversed Elrond Torso generic elf standing side by side. But you can see Elrond's back printing below:
