First off, I must say the set is way overpriced in SG. And on top of that, it’s only available in TRU, which makes it an exclusive. Thankfully I had some vouchers which I accumulated for times like these to soften the blow to my pocket.
Furthermore, this set went under the radar from all the hype and caught everyone off guard when it was released. And with 5 minifigs to start your super heroes collection, I couldn’t resist.
Enough of bantering... on with the review!
The Box
The top banner sports the usual Super Heroes theme with Batman swinging in. The overall set can be seen with the villains having fun of course and Batman hard at work trying to saving Robin. In the backdrop, the Funhouse seems to be situated in a part of industrial Gotham City. Not really what you’d expect.
The 1:1 actual size of the minifig which is quite standard nowadays. But who doesn’t know how big they are?
The other side of the box. Also another standard in all Super Hero sets.
The back of the box features the set from another angle and the sub frames show all the play features with the classic batman comic style ‘sound effects’. An ad for the Batman 2 game occupies the bottom right corner.
Contents
The contents are quite well packed, with box more than 2/3 full. The instructions weren’t crumpled. There are 3 main bags, and the railway tracks on its own.
The Comic
The comic book features all the comics of the various sets in action and also a bit more. There’s a ‘checklist’ of minifigs and which set they are in. The last page informs you that the Lego website has a comic builder to create own story. More pics on my Flickr
Instructions
The instructions were very typical, with a basic blue background.
Minifigs
The minifigs were all in different bags and you get to build them before the parts in bag.
Batman and Robin. Both have 2 faces, and back printing. I’ve always wanted Super Heroes and missed the previous Batman line. Thus, it’s awesome that they are the first I get my hands on. But as with everyone gripe, Batman has that white headband which is for his helmet, and makes the expressions he has quite pointless as you can’t see what’s below the mask.
Riddler. He gets a crowbar, which doubles up as a brick separator I thought he sports a cane? Also, you get 2 heads. I thought it was a bonus at first, but realized the second head is used in the set. He only has one face.
Harley Quinn and Joker. If you need a reason to get this set, it would have to be a woman! Both have 2 faces and back printing. But what makes her stand out is that her legs are printed too. She’d make a nice female court jester too. And you can’t get her anywhere else.
Joker stands out too. I haven’t gotten the other sets, so I don’t know if his expressions are unique in this set. But I doubt so. You don’t get many purple suits around town either.
Build
Brick separator. I think the newer, bigger sets have this and it’s very useful. Good call Lego. Don’t start bricking without it.
The DSS. Wasn’t crumpled and it’ll go straight into my archives. I’m someone who doesn’t like stickers on my bricks. The Batman logo is enticing though, useful when I MOC my own Batmobile in future?
Out of bag one you get Batman’s Batcycle. It’s a very simple build, but I wasn’t impressed with the design. It’s quite flat and doesn’t look streamlined at all.
Bag 2 completes the lower half of the funhouse. I’m not sure if there are many tracks which can go a level higher, but I think Train fans wouldn’t mind have an elevated train station?
Bag 3 completes the set. I’m not a sticker person so forgive me on that part. The build generally is simple and you can see the many play features.
Extras
Conclusion
Scores
Design & Build – 6 The build is very simple and straight forward. It’s targeted at the playability. The set is quite sturdy too. But nothing that really stands out.
Parts - 8 I doubt there are any new parts. However, there’s quite a good mix of parts which I haven’t gotten before. For a Starwars collector, you don’t get so many colours and tracks. So give more points.
Figures – 9 With 5 minifigs, this is where the set scores big. I would give a perfect 10 if Riddler had another face and came with a cane. This would be the very reason why the set is sold out at Shop@Home.
Playability - 9 Definitely tons of playability here. With traps everywhere in the funhouse, the possibilities are endless. And when Batman is up against 3 villians trying to save Robin, don’t expect a walk in the park.
Price - 6 One of the reasons holding people back would be this. However, I must say you should get it if there’s a discount, as the minifigs are a must if you are collecting this series.
Overall: 76%. My score: 8/10. I got this seriously for the minifigs. But the fun house is a great place to keep them occupied at night when I sleep. You may feel a pinch when you buy it, but once you fix it up, you won’t regret.
Thanks for reading! I hope you guys enjoyed the review.

Love the minifigs. Missed out on the previous Batman series too. For Batman's double face the expressions will not be covered when he's Bruce Wayne I guess.

This is great!!
Now folks can have a preview of what to expect even before they get their hands on this TRU exclusive set.
I suppose the new design brick separator is a bonus as in it is only included in certain sets.
Great job again Nukescientist, cheers!!

Re: [Review] Super Heroes 6857: The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape
Compare to the older batman sets, the newer ones spotted better minifigs IMO. And this set contains 3 boss villians, not just one. Therefore, I agree with the review, for the minifigs alone, this set makes it a must-get. Unfortunately, this set happens to be a TRU exclusive... I am not surprise that many have not buy this becos' of the price. Anyway, great review!

Re: [Review] Super Heroes 6857: The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape
Interesting observation thou... this box goes is advertised by TRU SG online at $89.90 but the in shop sign is $99.90.
Is anyone gonna bang table and dispute them? logically it should be $89.90, (as they usually price it 2x the USD price. its $39.90 USD, vs the Ywing which is $49.90 USD)
